On August 4, 2020, Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was hit by a devastating explosion.
What exploded was a stockpile of tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the port. Hundreds died, thousands were injured, and tens of thousands were displaced.
Using data from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission, I created this map to compare the port area before and after the explosion. The images are from July 27 and August 8.
