About me

Hi!

Welcome to my website. My name is Massimiliano Moraca, and I am an environmental engineer born in the last century (the year was 1983… sigh!).

If you’re here, it’s probably because you came across my GIS-related articles or videos somewhere on the web. For quite a few years now, I’ve been sharing content in the GIS field, focusing more on methods and analytical workflows than on specific software tools.

I strongly believe in knowledge sharing and interoperability, which is why I have a clear preference for Open Source software like QGIS. That said, what really matters to me is explaining the how, rather than which button to click.

Since 2014, I’ve been enriching this website, which originally started as “Il Blog del Consulente GIS.” Over time, it gradually expanded beyond GIS itself, as you’ll notice by browsing through the categories. Staying within the GIS world, I created a themed YouTube channel called “GIS Consultant” and a Telegram channel named “Un Caffè GIS.” The latter was inspired by in-person events I used to organize on Facebook before the 2020 pandemic. I called them “Un Caffè GIS” because they were meant to be informal, in-person conversations about GIS while enjoying a good coffee in downtown Naples.

At a certain point, I decided to learn Python, and it naturally became another topic of my articles through “PyGIS Blog.”

Along my professional journey, I encountered the field of Earth Observation — and I fell in love with it. Even years later, I’m still amazed by what can be achieved with satellite data. Naturally, satellite data processing and analysis also find their way into my articles and videos from time to time.

I hope my content and reflections can be useful to you in some way.

Enjoy exploring the materials, and if you feel like saying thank you, you can always buy me a beer via PayPal.
